Global Special Olympics Youth Summit 2023
In a remarkable display of dedication and commitment, youth leaders Lars Kajfež and Maj Pušnik, accompanied by adult mentor Gaston Descamps, embarked on a journey to Berlin on June 16. Their mission: to share their inspiring vision of inclusion within the judo community in Slovenia. After months of meticulous preparation, the trio eagerly boarded the plane, ready to present their project on an international stage.
Following two flights and a bus ride, the Slovenian delegates arrived at a bustling hostel in the eastern part of Berlin. They were greeted by approximately 50 other delegations, all united by a common purpose – to share their unique perspectives on inclusion. The atmosphere buzzed with excitement and anticipation as like-minded individuals from around the world gathered to exchange ideas.
Over the course of five exhilarating days, lasting connections were forged, and new friendships blossomed. The youth leaders showcased their innovative ideas while also acquiring valuable skills in effective communication. The summit proved invaluable for our Slovenian representatives to gain insights into the upcoming Special Olympics World Summer Games 2023. They were privileged to witness the grandeur of the opening ceremony and experience the thrill of various sporting events.
Amidst the numerous sessions and workshops, our team had the privilege of engaging with inclusion experts and absorbing their wisdom. These thought-provoking exchanges enriched their understanding and inspired them to approach their mission with renewed vigor. Upon their return to Slovenia, the delegation brought back a wealth of fresh ideas, an abundance of energy, and an unwavering motivation to pave the way for inclusivity within their judo community.
Judo, for them, has become more than just a sport; it has evolved into a powerful platform for promoting a fundamental value that they believe is indispensable for our society and the world at large – inclusion. Armed with their newfound knowledge and strengthened resolve, the Slovenian representatives are poised to embark on a transformative journey, ready to shape the future of judo within their community and foster an environment that embraces and celebrates diversity.
The impact of their efforts extends far beyond the judo mat as they strive to create a society that cherishes the principles of inclusivity. By championing this noble cause, Lars Kajfež, Maj Pušnik, Gaston Descamps, and their team stand at the forefront of a movement that can reshape our world and leave a lasting legacy of acceptance and unity.
